Dodge has been a name that people have trusted for years. With such storied brands as the Charger, Ram truck, and Caravan Dodge has driven the industry in quality for many years. Dodge Ram pickup trucks were the first in the business to offer redesigned trucks with aerodynamic body lines and increased fuel efficiency. Since that time, all of the other major brands have followed the leading of Dodge and introduced vehicles that have much the same look.

The ram brand was first introduced in 1981 as the Ram, Power Ram, and Ram Charger. Unfortunately, this brand did not sell as well as its counterparts from the other large US auto makers and it was decided that an update was needed. In 1994 a completely redesign Dodge Ram was introduced. This truck had a big rig looking front and the curved, aerodynamic lines that have become a Dodge Ram trademark. The truck was offered in the standard V6, V8 and diesel models, but was also offered with a V10 model for those who wanted increased towing capacity without the diesel. This 1994 update was everybody’s truck of the year, not only because of the new engine options, but also because of the newly redesigned body styling.

These trucks were originally named for the hood ornament that had adorned the Dodge cars in the 1930’s. now the Dodge Ram name and symbol stood for power and reliability. The 1998 version included a new, more roomy interior, that offered more storage and passenger room. Ram then made a big leap forward with the introduction of the 5.7L Hemi in the ¾ and 1-ton versions in 2003. These heavier (the suspension and frame were boosted in 2002) and more powerful trucks caused a huge jump in sales for the Dodge Ram. In 2006 Dodge introduced the new Mega Cab which included more space in the cab and box, and rear recliners.

The new Dodge Ram, which is to be introduced as the next generation 2009 model, will include many new features. The new truck has a beefed-up suspension, a new hemi option, and an innovative bed wall storage system that allows secure storage inside the walls of the truck box. The fuel efficiency of the newer models has been increased, and the power output has gone up by 45 hp.

With new innovations and the same great looks the new and improved Dodge Ram is a truck for everyman.
