Ford Taurus
The Ford Taurus is a full sized sedan that was originally sold as a mid size. It has been in production since 1986 and was renamed for a short period before making a come back. The Taurus also has an SUV counterpart called the Ford Taurus X.
At one time the Taurus was the best selling used car in the United States. It was one of the most innovative cars ever designed and has completely changed the sedan market. GM and Chrysler were forced to create cars that offered the same new aerodynamic design and features that the Taurus offered. The interior was designed with the controls being able to be recognized by touch and the driver area had the feel of a cockpit. Unfortunately, when these cars were compared to their Japanese counterparts they were found wanting and the used Taurus sales fell off so much that it was discontinued for the 2008 model year.
But, then because of public outcry and the need for a new name Ford decided that for the 2009 model year they are going to bring the Taurus name back. The platform is based on a new Ford Five hundred face lift. The new innovations that Ford introduced with the new Taurus were a newly styled front end and a new V6. This new Taurus will be available with push-button start, an advanced SYNC system with navigation, heated front/rear seats, a crash avoidance system for backing out of parking spaces, and a lane-change blind spot warning system, among many other technological additions.
All of these innovations mean that one of America’s favorite vehicles is back. Whether it can reclaim the popularity that it once enjoyed remains to be seen. Just the fact that executives realize that name brand recognition is important goes a long way toward reviving customer loyalty.
